On-Farm Solar Energy Production
Allen Bonthuis, technical sales consultant with Harvest Solar, will cover the current trends in on farm solar electricity generation. Bonthuis will briefly cover how solar works before walking through a system to understand what the components. Finally, he will address financial decisions and incentives, including energy savings, depreciation, Investment Tax Credits, and the USDA REAP grant that helps farmers estimate payback.

Allen Bonthuis
Allen Bonthuis grew up on a dairy in Muskegon County and still lives on a small cash crop operation in Ravenna. Over the past 20 years, his career has been in sales and consulting helping Michigan farmers make or save money. Currently, he works for Jackson-based Harvest Solar, assisting agricultural businesses with navigating solar energy issues such as placement, sizing, and incentives.
